Repairing a scarf with contrasting trim

I inherited a patterned scarf with a damaged border, and I would like to repair it so I can wear it again. I would rather test carefully than unpick stitches from fragile fabric later. The center is still sound, but the original edging has faded beyond a reliable match. The closest available trims are a subdued green and a noticeably warmer shade of brown. Both choices would be visible, and I have accepted that an invisible repair is unlikely. This led me to read about color analysis as the replacement trim will be quite visible around my neck and near my face. I can pin short samples in place before sewing anything onto the old fabric. I want to preserve its character, but I also want to enjoy wearing it. Which comparison would help you choose between preserving the pattern and flattering the wearer?
